COVID-19 Update: The Big Event 2021 Press Release

COLLEGE STATION, November 14th, 2020. Today, The Big Event at Texas A&M University would like to announce that The Big Event 2021 will be BACK this Spring! Registration is now open, and both students and members of the Bryan/College Station community can sign up online at bigevent.tamu.edu.

After collaborating with the cities of Bryan and College Station, the Brazos County Health District, and the Texas A&M University COVID-19 Task Force, the nation’s largest student-run service project was given the green light to host one of Texas A&M’s most meaningful traditions this coming March. The event will adhere to all national, state, and local guidelines concerning COVID-19 to ensure that the safety of residents, students, and staff members remains our top priority.

“I am so excited to announce that The Big Event will be returning to Aggieland this coming Spring semester! With The Big Event being canceled last school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have worked tirelessly to design a plan that keeps both our student volunteers and community members safe. We realize the importance of selfless service, especially during a time like this, and we are so thankful for the opportunity to bring selfless service to the community that supports Texas A&M so graciously.” – Director Kristin Guzak ‘21

Sign-ups are available on bigevent.tamu.edu

Texas A&M University is a community of scholars dedicated to solving diverse, real-world problems through determination, innovation, and above all, fearlessness. Texas A&M opened its doors in 1876 as the state’s first public institution of higher education and is today a tier-one research institution holding the elite triple land-, sea- and space-grant designations. Research conducted at Texas A&M represented annual expenditures of almost $1 billion in fiscal year 2018. Texas A&M’s 69,000 students and half a million former students are known for their commitment to service, as well as dedication to the university’s core values and rich traditions.

About The Big Event: Since its introduction in 1982, The Big Event has become the largest, one-day, student-run service project in the nation. Each spring, tens of thousands of Texas A&M students come together to say “Thank You” to the residents of Bryan and College Station. For the past 38 years, Aggie students have participated in this annual event to show their appreciation to the surrounding community, completing service projects such as yard work, window washing, and painting for residents of the community. Although The Big Event has become the largest one-day, student-run service project in the nation, our message and our mission remain the same – to simply say “Thank You.” “Through service-oriented activities, The Big Event promotes campus and community unity as students come together for one day to express their gratitude for the support from the surrounding community.”
