Since its introduction in 1982, The Big Event has become the largest, one-day, student-run service project in the nation. Each spring, tens of thousands of Texas A&M students come together to say "Thank You" to the residents of Bryan and College Station. For the past 33 years, Aggie students have participated in this annual event to show their appreciation to the surrounding community, completing service projects such as yard work, window washing, and painting for residents of the community. Although The Big Event has become the largest one-day, student-run service project in the nation, our message and our mission remains the same – to simply say “Thank You.”
"Through service-oriented activities, The Big Event promotes campus and community unity as students come together for one day to express their gratitude for the support from the surrounding community."
The Big Event is a proud member of the Student Government Association at Texas A&M, and a recognized student organization of Texas A&M University.
The Big Event is excited to announce that over 22,500 Aggies signed up for The Big Event on April 2nd, 2016. Come join our Aggie family on March 25th, 2017 as we look to serve our community again this year!
Our mission is “simply saying thank you" to the residents of the Bryan/College Station community, regardless of socioeconomic status. This act of “simply saying thank you,” is how we as Aggies live out our core value of Selfless Service.
Our gratitude and service is NOT based on the actions or socioeconomic status of the people we serve. Rather, it is simply a result of our desire as an Aggie Family to serve our community!

Each year, the Governor and First Lady of Texas select 9 recipients for the Governor's Volunteer Awards. This year, The Big Event at Texas A&M has been awarded the Higher Education Community Impact Award, given to the "college or university that supports and encourages civic engagement and volunteering as a core value." As an organization that embodies A&M's core value of selfless service, the Big Event's mission is to "simply say thank you" to the residents of the Bryan/College Station community for their overwhelming support of the University and student body.
