Protocols

The Big Event 2021 was approved by the office of Vice President of Student Affairs and received input from the Bryan County Health District on how to safely make it happen.

In-person Jobs:

  • The in-person jobs will take place on March 27th from 11 AM to 2 PM. Jobs will be 2 hours in length.
  • The day will begin with a kick-off ceremony that can be either attended in person (location to be determined) or virtually.
  • The participants will then be directed towards their respective job-sites where they will find the tools that have been previously dropped off by TBE staff
  • Jobs must only be conducted outside or under a covering where fresh air can be circulated
  • Participants must adhere to state and local guidelines of wearing a mask that covers the face and nose and maintaining a physical distance of 6ft between each other
  • Residents will also be required to wear a mask
  • If a resident does not adhere to the guidelines for masks and physical distance, the students are allowed to exit the job site immediately
  • Jobs will be no longer than 2 hours, not including time if the resident does provide lunch for the volunteers
  • The participants, after completing the assigned duties at the residents’ location or the 2 hours allotted work time has passed, can choose to drop off their tools back at First Baptist Church located in Bryan, Texas.

Resident Guidelines for In-person jobs:

  • Tools will be already transported to the job site prior to the Day Of by members of TBE or residents
  • Residents will be required to wear a mask and maintain a physical distance of 6ft with the student volunteers
  • If residents are inside of their home, The Big Event does not expect residents to wear a mask as students will not be entering the residents home.

Volunteer Group Guidelines for In-person Jobs:

  • Tools will be already transported to the job site prior to the Day Of by members of TBE or residents
  • Volunteer groups will be placed on jobs of 10 people or less
  • If the volunteer group exceeds 10 people, TBE will randomly assign the group in smaller sizes to jobs
  • A volunteer group will always be assigned together. 2 separate volunteer groups will not be assigned the same job.
  • Extra masks and sanitation will be provided for all in-person jobs
  • Volunteer groups are responsible for transporting tools back to the tool bring back location at First Baptist Bryan

Individual Volunteer Guidelines for In-person Jobs:

  • Tools will be already transported to the job site prior to the Day Of by members of TBE or residents
  • Individuals will be randomly grouped with other individual sign-ups.
  • Individuals will not be assigned with any group sign-ups
  • Individuals are responsible for coordinating with the other individual sign-ups in their group
  • Extra masks and sanitation will be provided for all in-person jobs
  • Individuals are responsible for transporting tools back to the tool bring back location at First Baptist Bryan

Virtual Jobs:

  • The virtual jobs will take place on March 27th between the times of 11 AM to 2 PM.
  • Virtual jobs will be conducted via breakout rooms with a zoom link that is facilitated by a member of The Big Event
  • Virtual jobs can only be conducted with adults. If a minor is present, a guardian must be on the zoom call with them as well
  • Students will be able to chat with the member of TBE if any issues occur

Resident Guidelines for Virtual Jobs:

  • Residents must use the zoom link provided to them by TBE to join a video conference with student volunteer(s)
  • Residents must be adults. If a minor is present, an adult guardian must be present as well.
  • Minors are not allowed to be left alone on the video conference with the student volunteer- this is for our safety and your own!
  • Virtual jobs may not exceed the time allotted of 2 hours
